Canon City

Canon City has  two distinct locations.

The official water park at Centennial Park is a dud, with not much more than weak surfing at levels from perhaps 1,600 - to 3,000 cfs.

Upstream about a mile the water inlet wave is a diversion dam for the city water supply which runs only at high water levels. Every couple years, when the water is high, it's awesome. Above 4,200 the wave at the Canon City water inlet is
excellent/worth-a-drive or maybe world class. The wave is fast, exciting, and extremely smooth. It's a great place to surf and spin, or  learn to blunt, and accomplished kayakers can throw all the wave tricks. The wave has a good eddy, but you must be 100% confident of your roll as once you go beyond the eddy the water is fast, so the rescue of a swimmer and/or boat is very difficult. The wave has good smooth surfing, without tricks from perhaps 3,000 to 4,200, depending on the length and speed of your boat.
